European Aerospace Digital Hub BoostAeroSpace

Paris Air Show, 18 June 2009

Goals and objectives

In the 21st century, inter-enterprise digital collaboration has become critical and vital for the competitiveness and for all main  programs of the Aerospace and Defence (A&D) industry.
Efficient communication of information between partners all across the supply chain is a key success factor and a significant opportunity for improved competitiveness among the major members of industry. Increasing use of the 3D digital product model, from the preliminary design to customer support, is resulting in new processes and IS applications.
In order to enable and speed up the deployment of digital processes and tools across the extended enterprise from the OEM till Tier n suppliers (SMEs) and to customers, standardized solutions and open standards are a key factor of success, as the proliferation of proprietary formats for each of the companies' e-business projects would lead to heterogeneous solutions difficult and expensive to integrate for the suppliers.

To address this challenge, EADS/Airbus, Dassault Aviation, Safran and Thales have decided to create an European Aerospace Digital Hub called BoostAeroSpace providing high value-added  standardized secured collaborative PLM (e.g. digital mockup) and SCM (e.g.supplier portal) services.
This platform will be available end of 2000, and then progressively be used by its founders and their worldwide partners and suppliers, whom it will provide IT-services and -interfaces, facilitating simplified interaction and collaboration amongst all suppliers and partners in the Aeronautics  Industry.

The digital integration of the Supply Chain key factor of competitiveness

The Hub will provide exchange as well as online collaborative services and rely on standards, in order to enable the interoperability with the processes and information systems of its users.
Tier 1, Tier 2 suppliers and SMEs, who produce 70% to 80% of the value of the products, will be able to use to use those services to work with their own partners or suppliers, which will ensure the digital integration of the Supply Chain, and thus enhance the competitiveness of the European Aerospace Industry.
